The first fishing sports organization in Idrija was founded on July 7, 1947. It took the name Ribarska zadruga, as similar organizations in other places were called at that time. The Idrijska Ribarska zadruga is supposed to take care of fish farming and fishing in Idrijka and all its tributaries and smaller streams up to Stopnik. The fishing cooperative had 49 founders and subsequently registered cooperative members.
The founding assembly on July 7, 1947 was chaired by the well-known forestry expert ing. Stanislav Mazi, who is also repeatedly mentioned in the following years as an "expert" in the management of Idrija fishermen. The assembly elected a board of directors consisting of seven members. The first management looked like this: Stanko Saksida became the president, Ljubo Kolakovič became the vice president, Peter Blaznik the secretary, Božidar Verbič the treasurer, and the councilors were Anton Prebil, Franc Felt and Stanislav Mazi.
In addition to the board of directors, the bodies of the "cooperative" were the supervisory board and the assembly.
Of the 49 cooperatives, as many as 37 were from Idrija, 6 from Spodnja Idrija, 2 from Otalež and 1 each from Cerkno, Želina, Plužen and Kanomlje.
A member of a "cooperative" could become a citizen who lived within the boundaries of its district, agreed to the rules with a written declaration of accession and paid the accession fee and the cooperative share; it amounted to 500 Yugoslav lire at the time. The cooperative had extensive rules, which included 28 articles on seven pages. The rules mainly regulated the following issues: fishing area, tasks of the cooperative, rights and duties of members, funds of the cooperative, bodies of the cooperative, operations and other.
The environment of the cooperative included all the waters in the then district of Idrija. A protected area for catching breeding stock for artificial fish farming was established from the wooden bridge at the mine smelter to the Kavčičev dam on the Idrijca. Fishing was prohibited from October 1 to March 15. The first regular general meeting was held on January 25, 1948 in the premises of the then "Youth Home". Among other things, they found that there were four hatcheries in the Na Tomu fish farm, in which 40,000 eggs were developing, which should "soon become young fish". For the year 1948, they planned to increase the capacity of the Na Tom fish farm to hatch 150,000 eggs and rear 50,000 fingerlings. Let's take a look at some more information about the operation of the Fishermen's Cooperative until 1953. The number of cooperatives rose to 67 members in 1949 and 71 in 1951, but there were far fewer sport fishermen - only 41 in 1949 and only 37 in 1951.
In the 1949-1950 season, the work of the cooperative looked like this: they hatched 130,000 eggs of their own origin and invested 110,000 pieces of brook trout spawn. They invested 10,000 eggs in Zaspana grapa, 40,000 eggs in Ljubevščica and 60,000 eggs in Belco. In 1949, they caught 541 kg of brook trout and 161 kg of grayling, with a total value of over 63,000 dinars at the time. In 1950, the catch was increased to 603 kg of brook trout and as much as 304 kg of grayling. The composition of the fishing management changed considerably from year to year. In 1950, the board of directors had 8 members: the president was Josip Kenda, the vice president was Srečko Novak, the secretary was Peter Blaznik, the treasurer was Stanko Kobal, and Ljubo Kolakovič was named as an "expert" among the board members. In 1952, Jože Kržišnik became president, Karel Šebenik secretary, Anton Jereb treasurer and Ludvik Vončina water master.
The Fishermen's Association ceased to function in its previous form in 1953, and its successor became the sports "Fishing Association". In 1954, the association's scope of work was reduced to the municipal boundaries. Finally, in 1958, the Fishing Society was named "Idrija Fishing Family". It still bears this beautiful name today. The successful work of the members of the society until 1958, when they caught 700 to 900 kg of fish annually, will be discussed in the following chapters.
